Shiny, happy people is such a good documentary. Highly recommended. My heart goes out to the Duggar family and anyone who’s had that kind of upbringing where they were made to learn about slut shaming instead of math. I remember enjoying the show growing up but we didn’t see any of the weird stuff going on. 

I’ve always had a ick for religion that I can’t explain and my heart goes out to all the people who were homeschooled but managed to escape IBLP (or Amish or Scientology or North Korean religion or any of it that has all the dangerous weird stuff) or were smart enough to leave and heal from it. 

Sometimes, I think my life was tough but then I learn about how some other people were raised. It’s super humbling and thought provoking to watch and learn from the very real and personal expressions of people who found the strength to rise above it. There’s a lot of good people who get caught up in that stuff and I just hope they’re all okay and happy.
